The Season

The 2022/23 season was a tale of two halves. Unrelenting wet conditions in spring made vineyard work difficult and disease pressure high. From December, that hard work was repaid in full when we were granted 3 months of lovely mild and dry conditions for the vines to finish their season’s work with relative ease, the grapes ripening slowly and steadily. Some yields were drastically reduced due to the wet spring but the wine quality is exceptional. The 2023 wines have depth, concentration and purity.

The Vineyard

Chardonnay from the Nenagh Park vineyard, and Viognier from the Homestead vineyards, only several hundred metres apart on the lower east facing slopes of the Chrismas Hills escarpment. Fertile, protected, moderated lands overlooking the Yarra Valley that is laid out to the east. Full exposure to the morning and daytime sunshine, and some protection from the harsh westerly summer sun. These are unique sites in the Yarra Valley that capture the expansive palates of valley floor wines with greater elegance, freshness and purity than sites further to the east.
