The Melange a Trois is grown at the top of Christmas Hills range at the Rising Vineyard on the far western side of the Yarra Valley. A unique combination of factors make this a compelling subregion, with greater altitude than the valley floor (250-300m), duplex soils similar in geology to the valley floor but much more decomposed and gravelly and drier conditions. The white wines of this vineyard are renowned in the region.
The Semillon was pressed directly to an old 500L puncheon and the Riesling and Gewurztraminer were whole bunch macerated for 7 days before pressing to a 10 year old 300L hogshead. Natural ferments, full malolactic ferment and bottled in late Winter without fining or filtration.

The 2019 vintage
The 2018/19 season started with a mild Spring, regular rain and fabulous balanced vine growth. From mid-December summer began in earnest with several hot spells punctuating a dry lead to harvest and mild weather in between. The weather moderated in the final couple of weeks before harvest allowing for a gentle and slow ripening in the final stages. The wines have a beautiful richness and density of flavour counterpointed with a genuine restraint.
