Bobar 2019 85% Pinot Noir

An alluring light garnet colour, fresh and juicy, a Yarra Valley Pinot Noir that is a cleansing breath of fresh air.

With 15% Syrah in the blend, this is a wine with a lifted and aromatic nose, fistfuls of summer berries, currants and earthy notes threaded throughout.

A sense of spring-water like purity in the palate, fast and fresh to drink. Bright acidity, fresh berry fruits and a gentle brush with tannin down the tongue.

A celebration of wine drinking pleasure.

The 85% Pinot Noir began with a tiny Pinot Noir parcel 150m north of the Bobar Chardonnay vineyard on the Nenagh Park farm. Picked early and macerated entirely as uncrushed whole bunches it had purity and brightness. The addition of 15% Syrah from a vineyard 10kms to the north of Yarra Glen in the Dixons Creek valley gave the deceptive depth that we love in our wines.

These vineyards share similar characteristics. Nenagh Park has a full easterly exposure and protection afforded to it by the Christmas Hills range immediately to the west. The Syrah vineyard in Dixons Creek has a gentle southerly slope and approximately 200m altitude that moderates it considerably from the surrounding valley floor. Together they provide purity and freshness but still draw on the generosity of flavour so characteristic of the valley floor.

The 2019 vintage

The 2018/19 season started with a mild Spring, regular rain and fabulous balanced vine growth. From mid-December summer began in earnest with several hot spells punctuating a dry lead to harvest and mild weather in between. The weather moderated in the final couple of weeks before harvest allowing for gentle ripening in the final stages. The wines have a beautiful richness and density of flavour counterpointed with a genuine restraint.
